Put your waders on gals, this one is DEEP!!
I make resolutions EVERY SINGLE YEAR. And EVERY SINGLE YEAR, about six to seven months in, I either forget them or just plain give up. Not this year. I want to set goals that are manageable for me; goals that are more than just “lose weight” or “read my Bible more;” goals that when met, will make me the best version of myself.
After having one of the toughest years I’ve had in a really long time, I’m ready for a change, a new beginning. I realize that there’s more to life than just the simplistic resolutions that I could make myself. Here’s where I landed.
For the first time, I thought I would choose a word that would drive my goals for this year. I gave much thought about what word I wanted to represent me and my goals for this year.
The dictionary defines intention as done on purpose, done in a deliberate way, or not accidental. Some synonyms are purposeful, intended and conscious. I don’t want to waft through this year just being in my life…I want to LIVE my life purposefully. I want to be laser-focused on my goals. I want a majority of my actions to not be accidental (I say “a majority” only to give myself some grace).
I then stumbled upon a DaySpring Quiz in which after answering a few questions, gave me my word for the year:
Initially, I didn’t like this word for me. It had not crossed my mind when thinking of what my word of the year should be. Courage is defined as ability to do something that frightens you; choice and willingness to confront; letting go of something familiar. I love the letting go of something familiar. Part of being INTENTIONAL is letting go of old habits (familiar). Being INTENTIONAL is COURAGEOUS! Finding the courage to pursue my goals to get to the best part myself if scary. Finding the courage to lay my goals out for others to see is scary. What if I fail? I’m reminded to not be afraid…
Joshua 1:9 Be strong and courageous! Don’t be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with your wherever you go.
Deuteronomy 31:6 Be strong and courageous! Don’t be afraid and don’t panic before them. For the Lord your God will go before you. He will neither fail or abandon you.
I will be BOLD in breaking old habits…even if I FAIL a time or two. I will have GRIT, and dig deep to achieve my BEST SELF.
I want to more INTENTIONAL and COURAGEOUS in the following areas of my life…
- Health (Feeling good and feeling good about myself)
So, I came up with a plan to help me be more INTENTIONAL and COURAGEOUS monthly, weekly and daily.
All of these goals are directly related to the areas I wanted to be more INTENTIONAL and COURAGEOUS with. I’m ready to kick open the doors of 2019, and get started on what will be my best year yet!
